Warning Signs Before You Book Cell Therapy Abroad, and What a Good Center Does Instead

Cell Therapy

By Vincent Caradec, Co-Founder & CEO, Healthi Life

A stem cell injection is a medical procedure with real risks when it goes wrong. The New England Journal of Medicine has published cases of serious harm after unproven cell injections, including a spinal growth that developed after treatments abroad (Berkowitz et al., 2016) and severe vision loss after eye injections sold as stem cell treatment (Kuriyan et al., 2017). Not every provider works like that. But the bad ones tend to look alike, and you can spot them before you pay.

Stem cell protocols at Healthi Life are given only after a medical consultation and on a physician’s prescription. This article is for general information and is not medical advice.

I run a doctor-led longevity house in Bangkok. These are the warning signs I would want a family member to know, each paired with what a good center does instead.

Warning sign: a price and a date before any doctor speaks to you

If the first reply to your message is a quote and a “limited slot,” you are talking to sales, not medicine.

A good center starts with a medical consultation, often possible before you travel, and treats eligibility as a real question.

Warning sign: nobody can say what the cells are

“Stem cells” alone is not an answer. Type, source and preparation all change what you receive.

A good center names the cell type, says where the cells come from and which laboratory prepared them, explains the quality standards, and can show you a Certificate of Analysis for the batch.

Warning sign: one treatment for every complaint

Knees, skin, fatigue, memory, “total rejuvenation,” all with the same injection.

A good center matches a protocol to an indication, and sometimes tells you that cell therapy is not the right tool. Many people who ask are not eligible.

Warning sign: a result promised in advance

A fix that lasts forever, or an outcome stated as a certainty. In Thailand, the Medical Council’s ethical rules forbid promising a result or presenting an investigational treatment as proven.

A good center says plainly that evidence for most orthopedic and longevity uses is still being built, labels the protocol investigational, and says outcomes vary.

Warning sign: no physician, no license

A first name on Instagram and a WhatsApp number is not a medical team.

A good center shows that a physician licensed in Thailand prescribes and supervises the protocol, and that the facility itself is licensed. Healthi Life is licensed as Healthi-Life Medical Clinic (license 10101003468).

Warning sign: same-day treatment with no tests

Walk in, pay, receive.

A good center reviews your history and medication first, and depending on your case may order blood panels, inflammatory markers or relevant imaging. Consent is written and documented before anything happens.

Warning sign: the relationship ends at the door

If the plan stops when you leave, you are on your own with any reaction.

A good center builds follow-up in. At Healthi Life, that means a remote follow-up plan with progress reviews scheduled with your physician, including for guests who fly home.

Warning sign: a price list that hides what it covers

Extra fees appear after you commit.

A good center publishes prices and says what they include. Our page publishes its prices for transparency, not as an offer: ฿59,000, ฿89,000 or ฿119,000 for a face or hair protocol and ฿86,000, ฿123,000 or ฿157,000 for one knee, consultation, eligibility screening and follow-up review included.

How to use this list

Pick the three signs that worry you most and ask about them in writing. A good center answers in detail. A weak one gets vague, or gets annoyed.

If you want to see how a doctor-led house answers, our page on stem cell therapy in Bangkok sets out the regulatory framework, the eligibility step and the published prices, so you can see what each of these answers looks like in writing. Our cells are mesenchymal stem cells from partner labs ISO-certified and GMP-compliant, with a Certificate of Analysis provided.

At 37, I ended up in intensive care, and my co-founder, Dr. Petch, told me it would not happen again. That is why we measure first and follow up after. It should be the baseline anywhere.
